HTML Link Validator 4.51

HTML Link Validator Editor's Review

HTML Link Validator allows a webmaster to check his or her web site for broken or redirected links. It can also validate Internet Shortcuts from your computer such as the Internet Explorer Favorites.

The program uses a multi-threaded web spider which accesses each page of a website, detecting its current status. If you want, you can use the program to verify a list of URLs or all the HTML files in a certain FTP directory. However, one of the the nicest things about this software is its ability to detect orphaned files (files that are located on the web server, but are not accessible from the starting address).

After you install the program make sure you check the "Options" dialog. Lots of settings can be configured there, including the number of simultaneous threads, the path where reports are generated, the link search options, and the color scheme. I guess it's worth mentioning that each valid link has a different color than an invalid one, making it easier to spot broken links.

Pluses: HTML Link Validator can generate very interesting reports containing the statistics it gathers.

Drawbacks / flaws: The program sometimes stops responding before validating HTML files on the local computer.

In conclusion: This application is not impressive but it does its job well. It also is quite fast, so if you need to verify your website for broken links, it's a good choice.
